Honor Code

The following code is in effect throughout the year. Some of the items refer specifically to team travel. In addition, any swimmer who deviates from the Honor Code, will be subject to immediate return home from trips (at the expense of the parent and/or swimmer). Note that the coaches may impose other consequences for extremely negative behavior of a team member, such as being banned from future travel meets, other competitions, or dismissal from the team.

NYC Aquatics Club (NYCC) will seek to attend out-of-town competitions for the following reasons: a) greater variety of competitors; b) higher quality of competition; c) experience in trials/finals competition; d) conditions conducive to exceptional performances.

1. NYCC may travel as a team to these meets and everyone is expected to behave in an exemplary manner. The reputation of NYCC, as well as the other athletes with you, is dependent on your behavior.

2. The coaching staff holds the final word on any rules, regulations, or disciplinary action.

3. The consumption or purchase of alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco, use of any illegal drug or substance of any kind, or substances banned by USA Swimming will not be allowed. In addition, any team member found or suspected to be in the presence of others (regardless of team affiliation) partaking in any of the above activities will be subject to the same punishments and probable expultion from NYCC.

4. Male and female team members, and male and female members of other teams, shall not be in the same hotel/motel room together while the door is closed in the absence of a parent, chaperone or coach.

5. Team members must attend all team meetings and warm-ups and be punctual.

6. No team member may leave the hotel/motel room after lights-out without permission from a coach.

7. NYCC expects team members to behave courteously in hotels, and to refrain from horseplay, pranks or mischief. In the event a team member causes damage to hotel property or if theft of hotel property occurs, the parent of the team member will be held responsible. Coaches may discipline team members who violate this rule.

8. Please make all long distance calls from the hotel on a credit card or call collect.

9. All team members will be courteous and polite in restaurants. Leave a 15% tip. If there has been a problem with service, see the coach.

I recognize my responsibility to abide by the rules and requirements of NYC Aquatics Club. I acknowledge that I have received and read the rules.
